White County Animal Wellness Center

The White County Animal Wellness Center (WCAWC) was born out of the need for more space and resources to support stray animals and ease the burden on Monon Veterinary Clinic (MVC) for caring for sick, young, or medically complex cases. MVC was just too small for the big dreams that were coming to life. As MVC expanded its reach to the local community, Dr. Samantha Shields recognized the growing demand for a dedicated facility that could focus on the well-being of homeless animals and provide much-needed support to the local animal welfare system, and the current facilities of MVC just weren’t enough.

Dr. Shields, whose passion for veterinary medicine has always driven her, found that shelter and community medicine was the work that truly "fills her cup." With a heart for animals in need, she worked to create a space where these animals could receive the specialized care and attention they deserve, while also lightening the load for MVC. The WCAWC aims to make a meaningful impact in White County by providing a compassionate and resource-rich environment for both animals in crisis and those seeking forever homes.

Today, the White County Animal Wellness Center continues to be a vital resource in the community, offering veterinary care, shelter services, and support for the animals and families in need. Dr. Shields’ commitment to improving the lives of animals, especially those in vulnerable situations, shines through in every aspect of the center's work.
